Week 8 - Final Wrap Up
This is the final blog for Life Span Psychology. I have found this class very educational and insightful. The different stages over the course of one's life are very interesting and how each of the theories can support these stages. The theories also build upon one another to a degree and as time passes, the theorists develop concepts a bit further. Psychology is interesting but always seemed daunting to me. This class was inspiring and knowledgeable. I learned more about myself and others but also my family and friends. This class will help me grow as a person and become a more effective teacher.
In the final chapter, I found the careers in LifeSpan Development interesting since I am Finance/Accountant. I went that route and I don't regret it for a minute. I have learned so much these past 24 years but am ready for a change. As I stated in an earlier blog, I either wanted to go the route of an Accountant working in the corporate world or go the route of becoming a teacher. I am grateful that I have the ability to change paths. I know it won't be easy but in my heart know this is the right path. I enjoy working with others and having that interaction. While I do interact with my co-workers, there are days I am stuck at my desk all day working and communicating through email or instant messages. I crave more interaction and want to help more people. My volunteer opportunities have reignited that passion in me though elementary school and Scouting. I have been told by other coworkers that I would make a good salesperson or trainer. I communicate well, am organized and present myself professionally. As I read the final chapter and reflecting on the middle adulthood chapter, my mindset and direction make more sense to me. I am lending toward my natural tendency which happens to be helping and interacting with others.
I also found this course enlightening with regards to my family, especially with my sons. It has reinforced the path and parenting skills my husband and I have used thus far. I feel more empowered having a greater understanding of my sons perspectives. I look forward to what the future lies ahead for them and myself. I want to continue to grow as a parent and support my sons to become independent adults. In addition, I realize I need and want to stay active to support a healthy lifestyle. My grandparents serve as an example with their longevity but I do not want to be sedentary and lose my strength. We can always learn from our elders and hopefully improve our quality of life for the future.
Finally thank you to my classmates as I have learned from your different perspectives on our weekly blogs. My hope is that I inspired you with my blog posts and that we all learned from each other. The information and knowledge we gained from this class should help us grow within our field.
